Three U.S. soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb southwest of Baghdad late Sunday, the U.S. military said on Monday.

The incident took place at about 8:00 p.m. (1600 GMT) Sunday, the military said in a brief statement.

The names of the soldiers are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.

More than 2,580 U.S. military personnel have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003.
