A group of "suite-type" residence ruins of the new stone age about 5,000 years ago have recently been unearthed. In a bid to coordinate the construction effort for the expressway from Wuning to Jian, the Jiangxi Provincial Cultural Relics Research Institute has launched a rescue excavation of the complex of 46 cultural relic ruins from the late stage of the new stone age, namely, the complex of hillside cultural ruins of Shangfeng town in Xiushui county.
This group of "suite-type" construction ruins is 6.5 meters from north to south and 4.5 meters from east to west. Its remnant earthen walls indicate it as in the shape of a rectangle structure with round corners.
Very few housing structures of this type with obvious division of living quarters and fairly complete functions have been seen, according to archeological experts, despite the discovery of large residence structures that had been spotted among the culture ruins of the new stone age.
