Seven Lebanese killed in Israeli blitz

Israeli warplanes continued to bombard south Lebanon early Monday, killing seven civilians and injuring five others, police said.

A three-storey building near Sidon, the main town in south Lebanon, was destroyed in the air raid.

Several airstrikes also hit areas east of the southern port city of Tyre, according to the police in southern Lebanon.

The bombardment came one day after Lebanon's Hezbollah rocket attack on Kfar Giladi, a community near the northern Israeli town of Kiyat Shemona, killed at least 12 Israelis and wounded four others on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a Hezbollah-run TV channel said at least four Israeli soldiers were killed in a pre-dawn attack on Monday in Houla, southern Lebanon. The Islamic Resistance, armed wing of Hezbollah, claimed responsibility for the killings.

Israeli troops have been fighting Hezbollah guerrillas inside southern Lebanon since the militia captured two Israeli soldiers on July 12.

Some 1,000 Lebanese have been killed in the 26-day-old conflict.
