Malaysia for Peace, a non- governmental organization, will send its medical team to Lebanon next week to assist people there, its official said Monday.
The medical team, comprising seven to 12 members, will include orthopedic and trauma experts, medical assistants and a logistic officer, said its coordinator Mukhriz Mahathir.
They will enter the war-torn region via Syria before moving to the Lebanese border, Mukhriz Mahathir told reporters after paying a courtesy call on Lebanon's ambassador to Malaysia Khalid Al- Kilani here.
Malaysia for Peace was informed that more than 1 million people in Lebanon were suffering and had to be evacuated from southern Lebanon as their settlements were demolished by Israeli bombings, said Mukhriz.
"It looks like we have to move fast even though there are plans for a ceasefire but the need for medical assistance is pressing as many of the injured civilians are children," he said.
Earlier at the meeting with the Lebanese ambassador, the organization also conveyed 3,000 blankets contributed by Malaysia Airlines, the national flagcarrier, which are to be sent to Lebanon.
