The Indonesian authorities on Monday lowered the danger status of the Merapi volcano in Central Java after three months as volcanic activities had significantly weakened in the last three weeks.
The coughing volcano no longer produced gas clouds and the glowing lava from its crater substantially declined, according to Subandriyo, head of the local volcanology center.
The 3,000-meter volcano was declared in full alert on May 13, Mount Merapi and residents within the radius of eight kilometers from crater were told to evacuate.
Two rescue workers were killed by extreme heat inside a bunker on its slope when they hid from Merapi hot clouds in June.
The volcano's known deadliest eruption took place in 1930 when 1,370 people were killed. It also erupted in 1994, claiming the lives of at least 66 people.
