Six people killed in insurgent attacks northeast of Baghdad

Six people were killed and 17 others wounded in insurgent attacks in the volatile Diyala province northeast of Baghdad on Monday, a U.S.-Iraqi liaison office said in a statement.

A roadside bomb went off near a passing civilian vehicle in the Doujamah Intersection near Khalis town, some 80 km northeast of Baghdad, killing three people and wounding nine others, including a child, said the statement from the Joint Coordination Center ( JCC) of Diyala.

In a separate incident, a car parked on a road in Khan Bani Saad town, some 35 km northeast of Baghdad, detonated near the convoy of the town's police chief.

The police chief escaped the attack unhurt, but a civilian was killed and eight others, including two policemen, wounded in the blast, the statement said.

Unknown gunmen separately shot dead two civilians in the town of Maqdadiyah, some 100 km northeast of Baghdad, the statement added.

Diyala province has long been a bastion of insurgency against the U.S.-led occupation.
