Algeria has sent the second batch of humanitarian aid to Lebanon since the conflict between Israel and Lebanon's guerilla group Hezbollah broke out in mid-July, the government said on Wednesday.
Djamel Ould Abbes, Algeria's minister of employment and national solidarity, said four military planes carrying 90 tons of food, medicines and 100 tents made a stopover in the Syrian capital of Damascus on Tuesday night and arrived at the Lebanese capital Beirut on Wednesday.
Medical service personnel and journalists were also aboard the planes, Abbes said, noting if needed, Algeria will try its best to help the Lebanese people.
On July 20, the Algerian government dispatched the first batch of humanitarian assistance to the Lebanese people, including 60 tons of food, a ton of medicine, 300 tents, and 2,000 blankets.
A group of 15 doctors and surgeons have also been sent to Syria to treat wounded Lebanese and Palestinians.
The Israel-Hezbollah violence erupted on July 12 when Hezbollah guerrillas abducted two Israeli soldiers and killed eight others during cross-border attacks. Over 100 Israelis and about 1,000 Lebanese have been killed in the fighting.
