A roadside bomb went off near a police patrol in an Iraqi northern town on Friday morning, killing two policemen and wounding four others, a police source said.

The attack took place when the patrol was passing by in the outskirts of Hawija town, some 60 km southwest of the Iraqi oil city of Kirkuk, the source said on condition of anonymity.

Iraqi security forces backed by U.S. troops rushed to the scene and detained some 30 suspects, the source added.
