About 50 French peacekeepers arrived in southern Lebanon on Saturday morning, the first reinforcement for a UN force tasked with helping the Lebanese army take control of the area, Lebanese security sources said.
Local LBC television showed that two inflatable boats first came ashore in Naqoura, about 5 km from the border with Israel, and about 10 minutes later, a larger boat landed in a harbor next to the headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Under a UN-brokered ceasefire which took effect on Monday, 15, 000 UN troops are expected to help the same number of Lebanese troops deployed in south Lebanon take control of the area, stronghold of Hezbollah.
