A sudden landslide sparked by torrential rain in the province's Yen Bai city killed a 61-year-old man named Nguyen Van Dong and his wife when they were sleeping. Another landslide in the city claimed the lives of a 47-year-old woman and her elder sister when they were cleaning land and mud behind their house.

In Vietnam's central region, flooding and lightening have killed 19 local people, injured seven others, and caused a total property loss of estimated 125.5 billion Vietnamese dong (nearly 7. 9 million dollars) since last weekend.
On Saturday, the Vietnamese government urged People's Committees of cities and provinces nationwide, and relevant ministries and agencies to actively deal with aftermaths of floods and landslides, which have killed 31 people in the central and northern regions since last weekend.
The government also instructed relevant agencies to publicize exact and timely forecasts about floods and landslides to prevent human and property losses, the agency said.
