US trade representative, Susan Schwab, praised China's efforts to combat software piracy. Her comments were aired on C-SPAN, a television program broadcasted in the US on August 20. She also said the US would not appeal to the WTO for a resolution on Sino-US trade disputes.
Schwab comments show America's willingness to settle intellectual disputes in consultation with China.
"We will not lodge a suit against China in the WTO. We hope that China can solve these problems by herself," she said.
Schwab added that America hopes that all parties concerned will come to an agreement about an open global market. Schwab herself is seeking a "common ground" for resuming global business negotiations through a series of bilateral consultations.
Schwab visited Malaysia on August 22nd, and talked with representatives from the economic ministry of ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) in Kuala Lumpur. She will then come to China, her first visit since she took the position of US trade representative in June.
