As the 5th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks approaches, nearly three-fourths of respondents to a CNN poll said they believed Osama bin Laden was planning another major attack.
The Aug. 18-20 survey, released Wednesday, found that 74 percent of the 1,033 adult Americans polled believed an attack was being planned, while 44 percent said Bin Laden would not succeed and 30 percent said he would.
Fifty-eight percent said it was either "very likely" or "somewhat likely" that the United States would be able to capture or kill Bin Laden. However, the percentage has continued to drop from 76 percent in 2001 and 66 percent in 2004.
Respondents were almost evenly split on whether the U.S.-led war in Iraq had hampered the nation's ability to capture or kill Bin Laden.
Forty-seven percent said it was either "very likely" or "somewhat likely" that Bin Laden would have been captured or killed, had the United States not become involved in the Iraq war.
Fifty-one percent said Bin Laden would not have been captured by now regardless of the Iraq war.
