Director of the Agrarian Development Institute (IDA) of Angola, Afonso Canga, has said that the southern region of the continent is going through hard times, particularly in the field of food production, it is reported on Thursday.

On behalf of Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Gilberto Lutukuta, Canga made the statement on Wednesday at the opening of the workshop on "Reinforcement of the Institutional Capacity for Development of Food Policy, Agriculture and Natural Resources of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC).

Canga noted that for diversity, the sector of food, agriculture and natural resources requires the participation of all branches of knowledge.

Haidari Amani, chairman of the council of the Food, Agriculture and Natural Analysis Policy (FANRPAN), said that he believes the southern region can create an environment helpful to a policy of food security in the SADC.
