ISAF troops escape unhurt as bomb goes off in N. Afghanistan

A roadside bomb explosion apparently targeted the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force ( ISAF) in Afghanistan's northern Baghlan province Saturday caused no lose of life, a spokesman of the multinational force said.

"There was an explosion at around 6:30 a.m. local time but there were no injuries on ISAF troops," the spokesman, Luke Knittig, told Xinhua.

He did not give more details but added the province is a German operation area.

No local officials were available to make comment.

As a major contributor to NATO-led ISAF forces, Germany has 2, 700 troops in the post-Taliban Afghanistan with the majority of them in the northern parts of the country serving to help stabilize security.

NATO has been under constant attacks since assuming the command from the U.S.-led coalition forces in south Afghanistan July 31. Over a dozen of its soldiers have been killed in Taliban-linked insurgency in the militancy-plagued region.

More than 1,900 people including some 90 soldiers of the U.S.- dominated coalition troops have lost their lives in Afghanistan over the past eight months.
