Japanese encephalitis epidemic kills 11 in eastern Nepal

As many as 11 of 73 Japanese encephalitis patients admitted in Koshi Zonal Hospital in eastern Nepal died of the disease, the state-run Rising Nepal newspaper reported on Tuesday.

According to the English newspaper, out of total number of patients admitted in the hospital, 48 have returned home while 6 were transferred to other hospitals and 8 are undergoing treatment.

According to the hospital at Biratnagar, some 400 km east of Kathmandu, the district comes under attack of the epidemic of encephalitis during August-September every year.
