60 percent of South Koreans oppose sending troops to Lebanon

An opinion poll said Monday that about 60 percent of South Koreans do not agree to send South Korean troops to Lebanon.

According to the survey, which was conducted by the Gallup Korea with 520 South Koreans nationwide, 59.8 percent of respondents said they "disagree" with sending South Korean troops to Lebanon, while 37.5 percent agreed.

Meanwhile, 74.9 percent of the respondents said "Yes" to dispatchment of more U.N. peacekeeping force to Lebanon, while 21. 7 percent said "No".

According to the survey, 65.4 percent of the respondents believed the Israeli army's military action in Lebanon was " excessive," while 9.3 percent said the Jewish state had not done enough in the form of retaliation.

The South Korean government was asked by the United Nations to send peacekeeping forces to Lebanon but it still did not make decision on whether to send troops there.
