Vietnamese, Lao prime ministers hold talks

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, on Tuesday, held talks with his visiting Lao counterpart Bouasone Bouphavanh to discuss issues of common concern.

"The visit is of significance in promoting the mutual belief and broad consensus between the two governments and the two peoples," Dung said before the meeting began.

The meeting is "aiming to foster the traditional friendship, the special solidarity, and the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries for the peace, stability, development and prosperity of the two countries and the world," he said.

The visit, the first overseas trip of Bouasone Bouphavanh since he took office in June, takes place when Vietnam and Laos are actively completing their socioeconomic development targets and implementing industrialization and modernization, he added.

During the three-day visit, starting from Tuesday, Bouphavanh is scheduled to meet with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nong Duc Manh, State President Nguyen Minh Triet and Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Phu Trong.
