The Dominican Republic's national baseball team on Tuesday defeated Colombia 8-3 in an Olympic qualifier held in San Jose de las Lajas in the province of Havana, 30km from Cuba's capital, local media said.
The Dominicans took the lead due to Colombia's weak defense in the four early innings, where the Colombians scored in dribs and drabs.
In the seventh game played in San Jose Dominica's team lead the fourth, with Hilario Claudio notably running home and clearing the bases. Six Dominican batters hit balls that won them undisputed runs to second base, including Claudio, but right-fielder Martires Castro stood out with three runs completed and two pushed forward.
