Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit strongly condemned Israel's attack on Sheja'eya neighborhood in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, which left five Palestinians dead, the official news agency MENA reported.
In a press statement, Abul Gheit also slammed Israel's killings of another ten Palestinians on Tuesday in Gaza and the West Bank.
Israel's violence during the last two months has claimed the lives of more than 200 Palestinians, including 44 children, not to mention the larger numbers of those injured, Abul Gheit said.
He called on the world community to live up to its responsibilities and guarantee that protection was provided for the Palestinians under occupation.
Abul-Gheit said the Israeli military escalation was unacceptable and would not achieve peace for the Israelis.
Violence will only bring about further violence, he added.
Five Palestinians were killed and four others wounded after an Israeli tank shelled Sheja'eya neighborhood.
Israeli forces have been operating in the Gaza City neighborhood since the weekend.
