A recent U.S. survey shows that nearly 90% of computers are found with spyware across the world.

According to a report recently issued by Webroot based on the data collected by Webroot Software, Inc. (Webroot) an anti-spyware company, during the first half of 2006, the amount of spyware, which many internet security experts claim have declined dramatically less than a year ago, has not fallen at all but vastly increased. The report says that spyware has increased considerably in number since last autumn and 89% of world's computers have been infected with an average of 30 pieces of spyware in the second quarter of this year.

The report points out that new distribution channels, advanced spyware technologies and a reliance on free anti-spyware programs are all contributing factors to the startling increase. Britain has the largest number of pieces of spyware detected in Europe: 30.5 pieces per computer on average, compared to an average of 24.5 pieces per computer worldwide.
