Israel to try Palestinian officials in Dec.
font size

An Israeli military court announced Thursday that the trial of detained Palestinian officials will be held on Dec. 12, Israel's newspaper Ha'aretz reported on its website editon.

According to the report, two Palestinian Cabinet ministers, the Speaker of the Palestinian parliament and 12 lawmakers who were seized by Israel during the past two months will be put before judge on Dec. 12.

The paper said that the Hamas officials were charged with membership and activity in an outlawed organization, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

Israel has arrested a number of Hamas officials after Palestinian militants launched the June 25 cross-border raid and kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

The attack also aroused Israel's massive military operation against Gaza after it withdrew from the area nearly one year ago.
