EU postpones judgment on Iran's response to nuclear offer
font size

The European Union (EU) has postponed its response to Iran's reaction to an international nuclear offer.

EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said last Friday that he would respond to Iran's position by the end of August.

But his office told Xinhua that no formal response was available on Thursday, the last day of the month.

Solana and Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani exchanged a telephone conversation on Thursday and they agreed to meet "in person" soon, said Solana's -office.

Solana's office would not say when the meeting will take place nor where the meeting will be held.

The office refused to comment on whether the development indicates the EU is withholding judgment on Tehran's position.

Solana said last Friday that Iran's response to the offer by Britain, France, Germany, Russia, the United States and China was over 20 pages in length and that it contained "new elements."

Solana received Iran's formal response on Aug. 22.
