Indonesia to send advance team to Lebanon
font size

Indonesia will immediately send an advance team to Lebanon to prepare the arrival of its national defence troops (TNI) as part of the UN Peacekeeping Force in the war-torn country, a military spokesman said.

The team would consist of 12 members to take care of logistics, accommodation and other technical matters for the Indonesian troops, Antara news agency on Wednesday quoting spokesman for the military headquarters, Rear Admiral Sunarto Sjoekronoputra, as saying.

The advance team would likely leave for Beirut on September 20, he added.

At present, the troops to be assigned to Lebanon for six months are undergoing an intensive training in Cilodong, Bogor district.

Last Saturday, the Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) sent a medical team to Lebanon and Palestine, a press release from the MER-C said.

The team consists of six doctors and six non-medical volunteers who are tasked to deal with logistics, data and documentation.

In addition, MER-C also sent medical equipment, medicines and financial assistance from the Indonesian Health Ministry to help war victims in Lebabon.
