The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a special workshop Wednesday, to speak out their views on the implementation of the country's long- and medium-term plan for the development of science and technology.
Jia Qinglin, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, and State-Councilor Chen Zhili addressed the meeting.
Over 20 members of the CPPCC National Committee spoke at the meeting, offering their opinions and proposals on issues like macro-management in the field of science and technology, the setting-up of a managerial system for the sector jointly by military and civilian personnel, the setting-up of a mechanism for innovation by companies, and the fostering of talented persons.
State Council officials attending the meeting said they would see these proposals as an important reference and will study them afterwards.
In his address, Jia called for seriously studying the important instructions by President Hu Jintao regarding the development of science and technology and Jiang Zemin's thought on the issue, and making new contribution to promoting the development of science and technology in China and building the nation into an innovation-oriented one.
