Thailand hosts SEA Games Executive Board annual meeting

Thailand is now holding the South East Asia (SEA) Games Executive Board annual meeting, which is attended by Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, Vietnam, and Timor-Leste, at Ambassador City Jomtien in Pattaya City on Thursday and Friday.

The meeting is to discuss how many sports and medals will be contended in next year's SEA Games in Thai central province of Nakhon Ratchasima. Thailand will present a total of 41 sports with a medal tally of 451 gold medals for consideration.

The Olympic Committee of Thailand (OCT) insisted Wednesday it had no intention of winning the overall title at the 2007 SEA Games by including many local sports in the regional sporting festival.

OCT secretary-general Charouck Arirachakaran assured SEA Games Federation members during the Executive Board annual meeting that the next games held in Thailand would mostly feature internationally-recognized sports.

Only six traditional sports will be featured in the next SEA Games.

"We want to improve the standard of the SEA Games up to Asian Games or Olympic levels. We will not try to win the SEA Games by adding more local sports," he said.
