Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will attend the 6th Summit of the Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM) in Finland, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry said Thursday.
The 6th ASEM summit is scheduled to be held on Sept. 10-11 in Helsinki, Finland, the ministry said in a statement released here.
Themed "10 Years of ASEM: Global Challenges-Joint Responses", the summit will discuss various issues of mutual concern to Asia and Europe, including strengthening multilateralism and addressing security threats, said the ministry.
Badawi will make a presentation on the topic of Dialogue among Cultures and Civilizations, at the specific invitation of Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen.
The Malaysian leader will also raise the urgency of resolving peacefully and finding an enduring solution to the problems in the Middle East, particularly in Palestine and Lebanon, said the ministry.
During his visit, Badawi will call on Finnish President Tarja Halonen and hold bilateral meetings with some of his counterparts from Asia and Europe to discuss various issues of mutual concern.
Badawi will be accompanied by deputy minister of foreign affairs and deputy minister of international trade and industry and senior officials from various government agencies, added the ministry.
