Syrian anti-terror forces thwart "terrorist" attack against U.S. embassy in Damascus
font size

Syrian anti-terror forces on Tuesday morning thwarted an attack conducted by a "terrorist" group, who tried to storm the U.S. embassy in Damascus, the official SANA news agency reported.

The group, named as Takfiri, comprised of four gunmen who used hand grenades and machines guns to launch the attack.

The guards assigned to protect the U.S. embassy clashed with the terrorists, killing three of them and wounding the fourth.

The terrorists used two cars, one of which was booby-trapped and parked in front of the embassy gate.

Competent experts from anti-terror forces managed to dismantle the explosive charge and the timing devices inside the car.

Earlier, the Egyptian official news agency MENA reported that the other car, a Mitsubishi Lancer, detonated as it was trying to storm the U.S. embassy.

The militants on board were totally charred.

Investigations are still underway into this terrorist incident.
