UN approves Malaysian troops to Lebanon

Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the United Nations (UN) approved the deployment of 360 Malaysian peacekeepers in Lebanon, the Bernama news agency reported Wednesday.

The UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Tuesday conveyed the message during his talks with Badawi, Badawi told Malaysian journalists in New York.

Malaysia, the current chairman of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), had earlier planned to send some 1,000 soldiers to join the UN Interim Force in Lebanon.
