China's top advisor meets delegates from Taiwan, HK, Macao

China's top advisor Jia Qinglin met Wednesday in Beijing with woman delegates from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao who are here to take part in a series of cross-Straits exchange activities with mainland women.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said the Chinese mainland and Taiwan belong to "One China" and the narrow Straits cannot cut blood ties between Chinese people on the two sides.

The pursuit of peace, stability and development is now a common wish of women across the Straits who are important forces for maintaining peaceful cross-Straits relations, Jia said.

Jia expressed his hope that women across the Straits would make a concerted effort to promote women's causes and the peaceful and stable development of cross-Straits relations.

Jia called on unswervingly adhere to the basic principles of "peaceful reunification" and "one country, two systems," as well as the eight-point proposal by Jiang Zemin on the settlement of the Taiwan issue and the four-point guidelines on cross-Straits relations set forth by President Hu Jintao.
