Education on the idea of rule of law must be combined with the study of the newly-published Selective Works of Jiang Zemin so as to improve the legal departments' capabilities, a senior official said Friday.
The works are a guideline for legal departments to fulfil their functions and safeguard social stability, and their study should be taken as a political task, said Luo Gan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.
"The education of the rule of law in the legal system must be instructed by the theory of Three Represents put forward by Jiang Zemin," said Luo at a tele-conference.
The Three Represents theory claims that the CPC always represents the most advanced productivity and culture and the most fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people.
Luo said the promotion of the idea of rule of law should guide the regulation of law enforcement, the handling of public complaints and reform of the legal system.
The Selected Works of Jiang Zemin, former chief of the CPC Central Committee, has been released across the country. They mainly consist of Jiang's major works from the late 1980s through the early period of this century.
