The tightened security measures in the Czech capital of Prague were set to continue for a week, Prague Mayor Pavel Bem said on Monday.
The municipal authorities had taken the necessary measures to ensure security around important buildings and sites, the mayor said.
The Czech government tightened security in Prague on Saturday in response to information about a heightened risk of a terrorist attack.
Armed police were stationed near potential targets, such as the city's historic Jewish Quarter, sports stadiums, train stations and the airport.
At some important sites, police also toughened checks of people and vehicles, officials said.
The terrorism watch would help raise anti-terrorism awareness among the Czech public, who have seldom realized the potential terrorist threat to a modern country, said Interior Minister Ivan Langer.
Public vigilance and citizens' cooperation with the police were the best tools to protect against any terrorist attacks, said Langer.
