A senior leader of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) on Wednesday called on the governing Islamic Resistance Movement ( Hamas) to recognize the Arab peace initiative and other related international resolutions.

Qais Abdel-Karim, a DFLP politburo member and a lawmaker in the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), told reporters that a national coalition should be formed in order to end the deteriorated status and the imposed embargo on the Palestinians.

Hamas leaders are dominating the Palestinian parliament PLC and leads the government that rejects the three world requirements related to recognizing Israel and the signed agreements and condemning violence.

The Hamas-led government, which took office in March, has found itself facing embargo and economic sanctions by Israel and the West after refusing to meet the above demands.

"Hamas should make its mind and show a clear position concerning the national coalition that should base on a political platform," Abdel-Karim said, adding it should be committed to the international resolutions and the Arab peace initiative.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Ismail Haneya from Hamas agreed in Gaza two weeks ago to form a national coalition government aims at ending the world embargo imposed on the Palestinians.

However, aids to Abbas accused Haneya and other Hamas leaders for changing their attitude towards forming a national coalition. Abbas had said talks on forming a coalition government retreated back to zero.

Abdel-Karim refused to say that the exerted efforts to form a national coalition "are waste of time", adding "every Palestinian effort is aiming at getting the Palestinian people out of their current crisis."
