Bulgaria to send frigate to join UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon
font size

Bulgaria will send a frigate to Lebanon as part of the UN peacekeeping force, Bulgarian Defence Minister Veselin Bliznakov told media on Wednesday.

Bulgaria's "Drazki" frigate will be in the mission between Oct. 15 and Dec. 15, said Bliznakov.

The minister added that he expected the government to approve the decision on Friday.

The 34-day-long conflict between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah ended on Aug. 14 under UN Resolution 1701, which called for Israel's withdrawal and authorized the expansion of the UN force in Lebanon to 15,000 to help the Lebanese government take control of its southern territory.
