Peru and Cuba defeated the United States and hosts Mexico respectively to make the semifinals of the women's international volleyball tournament in Monterrey, Mexico on Wednesday.

With the wins, both teams make the final four together with group leaders Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

In front of the home crowds, the Mexican players had their best performance so far in the tournament but still suffered the defeat anyway 28-26, 25-19 and 26-24 as they made more errors both in serves and attacks.

The United States, who lost to Puerto Rico and Cuba earlier, had another bad day as they went down to Peru 25-18, 16-25, 26-24 and 25-18.

Thursday will feature the semifinals, where Peru play Puerto Rico and Cuba face the Dominican Republic, with the winners vying for the title on Friday.

The hosts will fight for the fifth place against the United States.
