An official of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) called on Thursday for accelerating measures to form a national unity government "to keep faith with the second Palestinian intifada," or uprising.
"We have to form a national unity government, activate the Palestine Liberation Organization and maintain our national unity, " Saleh Zidan, member of the DFLP politburo, said.
"This is the way to ensure freedom and independence, and the intifada is still going on because of national unity," he said on the occasion of the sixth anniversary of the second intifada.
Meanwhile, a deputy of President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Gaza on Thursday to resume talks with Hamas on forming a proposed national unity government.
Zidan stressed that such talks should focus on serving the people and satisfying their needs.
He also called on Hamas to respect the Prisoners' Document of National Accordance and accept the Arab peace initiative.
"If the Hamas-led government want to break up Israeli siege and stop aggression, it has to come up with a political program based on the document and international resolutions," he said.
