Vietnam has eyed 8-10 gold medals and ranking 15th among 44 teams at the upcoming 15th Asian Games, a high-ranking official told Xinhua on Friday.

The 246-strong Vietnamese delegation are expected to bag home 8-10 golds from 25 events at the Games slated for December in Qatar, vice president of Vietnam's National Olympic Committee, Nguyen Hong Minh, said, noting that Vietnam pins biggest hope on taekwondo, karate, wushu, bodybuilding, billiards-snooker, weightlifting and sepak takraw.

To encourage athletes, the country has recently offered more allowances to them, especially 12 most outstanding athletes and their trainers.

Vietnam won four gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals at the Busan Asian Games in 2002, Minh said, noting that local athletes bagged home the four gold medals in the three events of bodybuilding, billiards and karate.
