Laura Codruta Kovesi on Monday became Romania's first female prosecutor general after the Supreme Court of Justice and Cassation promoted her to the office under a presidential decree.
On Sept. 23, Justice Minister Monica Macovei nominated Kovesi for the office of Romania's prosecutor general. The Supreme Council of Magistrates approved the nomination on Sept. 27.
Kovesi, 33, began her prosecution career at the prosecution office with the Sibiu Tribunal in central Romania. In January this year, she was appointed head of the Sibiu Local Office of the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Directorate.
She will replace Ilie Botos, who resigned on July 21.
