Militants loyal to Palestinian Interior Minister of Hamas have withdrawn Monday from Gaza Strip roads one day after nine were killed in clashes with President Mahmoud Abbas' official forces.
After midnight meeting with chiefs of security services in Gaza, Interior Minister Said Siam ordered his Auxiliary Forces back to their previous positions while official security members were seen deploying on the streets.
On Sunday, Interior Ministry's forces, loyal to governing Hamas, took to the streets to curb demonstrations by security members of rival Fatah who demand to be paid overdue salaries.
The Hamas-led government considered the demonstrations and blocking crossroads with burning tiers as insurgence by the military.
Nine Palestinians, mostly security members, were killed and up to 100 wounded in the clashes that erupted in Gaza Strip after the deployment of Hamas forces.
Egyptian Security Delegation which based in Gaza has mediated between Fatah and Hamas and urged both to reach a deal to stop armed displays on streets and to deploy official security forces instead of Hamas-controlled forces.
During a news conference, Siam stressed security services should carry out their role in maintaining security, and called for joint cooperation between Prime Minister Ismail Haneya and President Abbas in order to support the security forces.
Siam also agreed with security chiefs to open an investigation into the deadliest clashes since Hamas took office in March.
