Syrian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Sofian al-Alaw on Tuesday said his country would get profit from an Arab gas pipeline project which links Egypt with Turkey and some European countries, the official SANA news agency reported.
"The project that transports and markets the gas from the Arab countries into Turkey and Europe will give profits to the Syrian economy from the duties and fees of crossing the Syrian lands, in addition to the possibility of supplying the country with this gas," Alaw was quoted as saying.
The pipeline, with a total cost of 1.2 billion U.S. dollars, extends from Egypt, crosses Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, and finally reaches Turkey and some European countries.
With a total length of 1,200 km beginning from al-Aresh city in Egypt to the Turkish borders, it is considered as one of the most important and pivotal economic projects implemented in the framework of the Arab economic cooperation.
The pipeline on the Syrian territory runs 554 km, said the report.
