Vietnamese garment exports to EU, U.S. surge in first 3 quarters

Vietnam's garment and textile exports to the European Union (EU) and the United States posted a year-on- year rise of over 51 percent and 29 percent, respectively, in the first nine months of this year.

The United States was the biggest market of Vietnamese textiles and garments, importing nearly 2.1 billion U.S. dollars worth of the local products between January and September, while the EU imported the items totaling 820 million dollars, according to the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas) on Monday.

In the nine-month period, Vietnam earned a total of nearly 4.5 billion dollars from supplying garments and textiles to the world market, a year-on-year increase of 27.8 percent.

The country is estimated to reap 5.5 billion dollars from exporting the goods, mainly to the EU and the United States, this year, up 14.6 percent, the Vitas said, noting that exports to the European block can reach 1.4-1.5 billion dollars in the year.
