font size

Vietnam and Laos will promote their comprehensive cooperation, especially in the economic and trade fields, on the principles of equality, mutual benefit, and giving suitable priorities to each other, Vietnam News Agency quoted the two countries' top leaders as saying.

During the talks between visiting General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nong Duc Manh and General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Lao President Choummaly Sayasonethe on Tuesday, the two sides discussed measures to strengthen their friendly ties, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation, and touched upon regional and international issues of common concerns.

They agreed to bring the bilateral ties to a new height for the benefits of the both countries' people, for the peace, national independence, democracy and social advance in the world.

They also agreed to accelerate their cooperation in compiling the history of the special relations and the fighting alliance between Vietnam and Laos.

Manh, who started his four-day official goodwill visit to Laos on Tuesday, met with Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh and President of the National Assembly of Laos Thongsing Thammavong. The Lao side wants Vietnam to invest more in the fields of transport, energy and cash crop cultivation, and share experience in building laws.

Manh's visit follows the trips to Vietnam by Choummaly Sayasonethe in June and Bouasone Bouphavanh in August.
