The mascots for 2008 Olympic Games have adopted a new Romanized name, "Fuwa", the pinyin translation of the Chinese word for mascot. The mascots were previously known as the "Friendlies", which has been controversial since it was released in November last year, according to the Beijing Olympic Games Organization Committee."Fuwa" has started to be used. On all publicity pictures for the 2008 Olymipc mascots, the name has been changed to "Fuwa".
