Senegal former national soccer team coach Peter Schnittger of Germany and his wife have been injured during a burglary at their home in Dakar, local news agency reported on Wednesday.
Agence Presse Senegalaise (APS) said that Schnittger and his wife were hospitalized for several hours on Tuesday following the attack at their home in Les Mamelles neighbourhood late Monday.
The two attackers "were visibly under the influence of drugs," Schnittger told Walfadjiri FM, a private radio station.
Schnittger was punched and hit with a machete before being tied up with his wife, and the perpetrators took off a digital camera, jewelery, and 100,000 FCFA (150 euros, about 200 dollars), APS reported.
Schnittger has coached since 1968 scores of elite African players from Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Ethiopia and Senegal.
In April 2006, he was named national technical chief of the Algerian football federation. He led the Senegalese team during the 2000 African Cup of Nations in Nigeria.
