The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has said it will have nothing to do with fired German coach Burkhard Ziese's plans to build youth soccer academies in the country, Nation Online of Malawi reported Wednesday.
Ziese told Nation recently he and six business partners plan to construct academies in the southern African country.
But the German coach has said he doesn't need FAM's hand in the project. He said he will work with a non-governmental organization (NGO).
Asked FAM's view on the matter Tuesday FAM general secretary Yasin Osman said he is not obliged to comment on the issue because Ziese is no longer their employee.
"He does not have the money to construct those academies. Or has he told you where the money will come from? He is just lying to you and FAM has nothing to do with that," said Osman.
He said "he does not have the work permit to stay in this country. Can you just go to Germany and start your projects there without getting a work permit?" asked Osman.
Ziese, however, said he will wait for the Sports Minister Jaffalie Mussa's response to his dismissal."They (FAM) do not have to support me. You will see what will happen as soon as the minister responds to my letter which I wrote him about my dismissal.I have already talked to a number of coaches who are ready to work with me. I don't care they are under FAM. Some of them can understand the situation and have pledged to work with me," said Ziese, who refused to name the coaches.
The German, who is never short of controversy, was given the boot by FAM on September 27 following a recommendation one day before by the FAM Disciplinary Committee which found him guilty of serious breach of the agreement he signed with the association.
Ziese is accused of insubordination and open defiance; lack of respect for authority; absconding duties without satisfactory reasons; fraud and corruption; lack of submission of match reports and use of abusive language to officials and players.
