Spokesman of the Hamas-led government Ghazi Hamad on Friday denied earlier media reports alleging the convoy of Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haneya was attacked in Gaza city.
"Prime Minister Haneya's convey was not under fire, (and the gunshots) were nothing but a coincidence," Hamad told Xinhua over telephone.
The spokesman said the gunshots occurred in the Nusseirat refugee camp were between a Palestinian family whose son was killed two weeks ago by the Hamas paramilitary force and the auxiliary force of the Interior Ministry, largely consisted of Hamas members.
Haneya's convey coincidently passed by the area when the gunshots took place. But the convey was not targeted, Hamad said.
Haneya's car was not hit and the head of the Hamas-led government was not hurt, said Hamad.
The incident happened after Haneya delivered a sermon, ruling out any alternatives to a unity government proposed by president Mahmoud Abbas for ending a political crisis.
Insecurity aggravated in recent months in the Gaza Strip by clashes between the rival movements of Abbas' Fatah and the ruling Hamas after talks on a unity government deadlocked over Hamas' refusal to recognize Israel.
