Hwange Colliery Company (HCC), Zimbabwe's largest coal producer, has said the acquisition of new mining equipment from China and other countries has enabled it to double production, reported local newspaper on Sunday.
The company has reportedly received equipment that included 10 terex dump trucks, two atlas excavators and one terex water bowser from Norinco in China and two drilling machines from Sweden, and two shuttle cars from Joy Mining in South Africa.
The company's managing director Godfrey Dzinomwa said his company is on course to satisfy national demand. The development marks an improvement from recent months where the coal producer has been unable to meet national demand averaging 320,000 tons a month because of flooding that took place earlier in the year.
Dzinomwa said the delivery of the equipment had enabled the HCC to increase coal production in its opencast and underground mines to 10,000 tons and 1,600 tons respectively.
