U.S. soldier killed in bomb attack in Baghdad

An American soldier died of wounds sustained on Tuesday in a roadside bomb blast in Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Wednesday in a statement.

"A Multi-National Division - Baghdad Soldier died at approximately 2:15 a.m. today from wounds he received when his patrol was struck by an improvised-explosive device in central Baghdad," said the statement.

No further details were available about the exact location of the attack.

The latest death was part of a surge in U.S. fatalities in October, bringing the U.S. soldiers killed to more than 90, the highest toll for any month this year.

More than 2,795 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003.
