Oil prices rose slightly Friday amid fears of terror attack on the Gulf oil terminals.
New York's main contract, light sweet crude for delivery in December, climbed 39 cents to close at 60.75 dollars a barrel.
In London, Brent North Sea crude for December delivery rose 31 cents to settle at 61.08 dollars a barrel.
A British navy official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Friday that a threat from al-Qaida last month to target Gulf oil terminals had resulted in stepped-up security and vigilance at Saudi Arabia's Ras Tanura terminal, as well as a refinery in Bahrain, according to AP reports.
The Department of Energy said Wednesday that crude oil inventories fell 3.3 million barrels to 332.3 million in the week to October 20. Gasoline fell 2.8 million barrels to 207.4 million and distillate products, including heating oil and diesel fuel, fell 1.4 million barrels to 144.0 million.
