Visiting Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski on Sunday described Syria as "an important country" in solving Middle East issues, the official SANA news agency reported.
Waszczykowski made the remarks after meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem in which they reviewed developments in the region, SANA said.
"Poland and the EU believe that issues of the Middle East can't be solved without Syria's participation," the senior diplomat was quoted as saying.
The Polish official added that he came to Syria aimd at getting acquainted with and evaluate the Syrian viewpoints on regional events, particularly on the Lebanese arena due to the important role of Syria in the region.
"It is natural and presumed for the officials of the European Union to visit Syria and exchange viewpoints with it regarding developments in the Middle East," he said.
The two sides also discussed bilateral relations between Syria and Poland as well as the Syrian-European relation, SANA said.
