Chinese, ASEAN leaders agree to seek peaceful solution to DPRK nuke issue

The Chinese and ASEAN leaders agreed that the nuclear standoff on the Korean Peninsula should be resolved in a peaceful way, Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said Monday.

She made the remarks at a press conference at the end of the China-ASEAN summit meeting marking the 15th anniversary of their dialogue relations.

Arroyo called for an early resumption of the six-party talks concerning the nuclear program of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Arroyo also expressed appreciation for the role that China has played in solving the issue.

"Regional peace and stability has never been more important," she said, adding that the meeting has provided a great platform for discussing economic and security issues.
